Assemblyman Alberto Torrico Endorses Nadia Lockyer for Supervisor

Torrico praises Lockyer's 'record of achievement' and priorities for Alameda County Families

Hayward, CA - The Nadia Lockyer for Alameda County Supervisor campaign announced today that Assemblyman Alberto Torrico has endorsed Nadia Lockyer in her bid to represent District 2 on the Board of Supervisors. The endorsement signals Nadia's strong position for the run-off election in November.

"I am proud to endorse Nadia Lockyer for Supervisor," said Assemblyman Alberto Torrico. "Nadia has a proven record of achievement in Alameda County government and she will be the voice for working families on the Board of Supervisors. During this time of economic hardship for many of our citizens, Nadia Lockyer's expertise in coordinating Alameda County resources will help us get through the months and years ahead. I look forward to Nadia Lockyer serving as our representative on the Board of Supervisors when she is elected in November," Torrico added.

Torrico served on the Newark City Council and then went on to represent AD 20 in the California State Assembly, where he recently served as the Majority Leader of the Assembly. Throughout his tenure in the legislature, Torrico established himself as an advocate for students and working families.

"I am deeply honored to have the support of Assemblyman Alberto Torrico," said Nadia Lockyer. "As Supervisor, I will work hard to make government more efficient and ensure that our county government is meeting the needs of our citizens. Southern Alameda County families will have an advocate in me on the Board of Supervisors when I am elected to represent the people of District 2," Lockyer added.

Lockyer is a county manager who currently serves as the Executive Director of the Alameda County Family Justice Center, a one-stop service delivery center comprised of multiple public, non-profit, and government agencies with the single mission of providing easily accessible and coordinated services to victims of domestic violence, child abuse, elder abuse, and sexual assault and exploitation. Prior to her current position as Executive Director of the ACFJC, Nadia practiced law representing adult victims of childhood sexual and physical abuse.

Lockyer, a Democrat, has been endorsed by various organizations and state and local leaders, including the Alameda Labor Council, AFL-CIO, SEIU Local 1021, Deputy Sheriffs' Association, The Alameda County Democratic Party, Attorney General Jerry Brown, Sen. Art Torres (Ret.), Assemblymember Mary Hayashi, Alameda County Supervisor Scott Haggerty, and Hayward City Councilmember Bill Quirk.

Lockyer is running for the District 2 seat of the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, which represents parts of Hayward, Newark, Union City, Fremont, and Sunol. The run-off election will be held on November 2, 2010.
